Wreck-it Ralph in 3D is far from a wreckage!

Unappreciated game villain, Wreck-It Ralph, goes out of his arcade game to prove that he can be a hero. Not without leaving a trail of wreckage in the world of arcade games of course! Enter the world of video games as you follow Ralph jump from one game to another in search of heroism while facing obstacles that come in packages both big and small. This movie is loads of fun as we see some childhood game characters making cameo appearances, but does this movie get a new high score for 3D or is it game-over?

Suited for 3D? (what does this mean?)
You are entering a world of video games. Enough said.

Score: 5/5

Filmed for 3D? (what does this mean?)
The filmmakers did have the 3D in mind when making this movie. There were a few scenes that were tailor made for 3D. There were also well calculated 3D elements that made the 3D world look good. However, the filmmakers did not give the movie the full 3D treatment and it sometimes felt like a run-of-the-mill post-conversion 3D effort.

Score: 4/5

Closed Window Experience (what does this mean?)
The closed window experience was very nice. The video game world looked nice with the amount of depth included with 3D. However, the depth can sometimes go unrecognized, leaving the image looking like a typical 3D-CGI film that was made in 2D (E.g. Monsters Inc.). But these moments are minimal.

Score: 4/5

Open Window Experience (what does this mean?)
Wreck-It Ralph fires blanks in this department. There were almost no scenes with objects flying out of the screen. So much potential in this movie gone to waste. There were a couple of scenes that had objects pushing the screen barrier, but never fully going through it.

Score: 1/5

The Naked-Eye Test (what does this mean?)
The 3D glasses definitely has an important role to play. But many a time, the focus object in each scene is clear with the 3D glasses off. This just points to the use of foregrounding and backgrounding to create certain 3D effects. This is not bad, but can be considered a noob 3D creation effort compared to the use of direct 3D cameras.

Score: 4/5

Final Score: 18/25

Final Verdict
3D may not be the first choice when it comes to Wreck-It Ralph. But it is definitely worth a try if you have spare change and are game enough!

Enough from me! Would YOU recommend watching this movie in 3D?
