Disney and Pixar venture into a 'Brave' new world that deviates from the familiarity of previous movies like Toy Story or Up. Set in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. An archery-loving
princess at the forefront. Four armies of warriors boasting an inventory of
axes, spears, and swords. Need I go on? I was sold to the 3D potential of this
movie, if not the story. Hats off to Disney’s advertising bravado and good luck to Pixar's first princess movie. Fast forward to release day, does
Brave live up to its 3D potential?
This movie was begging to be featured in 3D. Imagine arrows
flying at you as you follow the flame-haired princess on an adventure through the
beautiful backdrop of Scotland. Now add warriors, witches, and bears into the mix. Okay.. weird combination. But let's face it. We want 3D for this!

Filmed for 3D? (what does this mean?)
The filmmakers knew that this movie would look good in 3D. They definitely planned the filming process to include 3D elements. However, the end product was the result of a half-baked effort that teased the audiences. Nobody likes a teaser!

Closed Window Experience (what does this mean?)
The scenery in the movie felt deep and extended far into the
screen to give us a good feel of a real world behind the movie screen. This was
especially the case for images in the background of the movie. The only problem
here is that it didn’t make the audience feel like a present bystander in the
movie. It makes the mistake of recreating the feeling of detachment that one
might experience watching a 2D movie. Good attempt though.

Open Window Experience (what does this mean?)
Dear readers, I regret to inform you that 3D is dying.
Filmmakers are often forgetting the aspect of 3D that puts a smile on the faces
of many. How many of you were tickled the first time you experienced 3D that
made you flinch? You won’t relive that experience with Brave. This is extremely
upsetting with its immense potential. There were just one or two scenes that
might have, probably, perhaps, almost, come out of the screen. Just don’t hold
your breath!
Score: 1/5
Naked Eye Test (what does this mean?)
The picture was blur with the 3D glasses off. Wait, that’s a
good thing! With the glasses on, not only was the blur corrected, but it also
added depth to the image. This 3D formatting was compromised only during
close-up shots of characters. The 3D glasses didn’t do much for these scenes. No
biggie.

Final Verdict
In the end, Brave in 3D was as good as it’s fiery Scottish princess’s Irish accent. Confused? You should be. The 3D is present,
yet not fully there. If you’re feeling rich and want to treat yourself to a
movie with a minor visual facelift, I’m not stopping you.
Enough from me! Would YOU recommend watching this movie in 3D?
